Palmitic Acid Solution (PA, 10 mM), IC-1330

Product Introduction

This product is a ready-to-use 10 mM palmitic acid (PA) solution supplied with a matched BSA vehicle control. Palmitic acid is a saturated long-chain fatty acid (C16:0) that serves as an important energy substrate and a key mediator of lipid-induced cellular stress. Elevated palmitic acid levels are widely used in vitro to model lipotoxicity, insulin resistance, endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and inflammation in hepatocytes, skeletal muscle cells, adipocytes, and pancreatic ¦Â-cells. This product is formulated as a soluble palmitic acid complex suitable for direct supplementation into cell culture medium, and the included BSA vehicle control allows discrimination of fatty acid-specific effects from those of the carrier protein alone.

Product Features

1. Ready-to-Use 10 mM Solution: Eliminates the need for saponification, complexation, and solubility optimization.

2. Matched BSA Vehicle Control Included: Enables discrimination of palmitic acid-specific effects from carrier protein effects.

3. Cell Culture Compatible: Formulated for direct addition to culture medium.

4. Widely Applicable: Suitable for modeling lipotoxicity, insulin resistance, ER stress, and inflammatory responses in vitro.

Specifications

Size: 5 mL / 10 mL

CAS Number: 57-10-3

Concentration: 10 mM

Components: Palmitic Acid Solution (10 mM) and BSA vehicle control

Application: In vitro modeling of lipotoxicity, insulin resistance, ER stress, and inflammation

Storage and Stability

Storage Conditions: Store at -20¡ãC, protected from light. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles; aliquot into single-use volumes upon first use.

Shelf Life: The product is stable for 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored as directed.

Protocol (For Reference Only)

Important: Warm the solution to 37¡ãC and mix gently before use to ensure a homogeneous solution. Prepare working dilutions in pre-warmed culture medium.

1. Thawing: Thaw the palmitic acid solution and BSA control at 37¡ãC or 4¡ãC. Warm to 37¡ãC and mix gently until the solution is homogeneous before use.

2. Working Solution Preparation: Dilute the 10 mM palmitic acid solution into pre-warmed complete culture medium to the desired final concentration (commonly 100-500 µM for lipotoxicity models). Prepare the BSA control at the equivalent dilution for vehicle control.

3. Cell Treatment: Seed cells in appropriate culture vessels and allow to attach overnight. Replace medium with fresh medium containing the diluted palmitic acid solution or BSA control. Incubate at 37¡ãC, 5% CO₂ for the desired treatment period (typically 12-48 hours).

4. Downstream Analysis: Assess cell viability, lipid accumulation, insulin signaling, ER stress markers, inflammatory cytokine expression, or mitochondrial function according to standard protocols. Compare palmitic acid-treated groups with the matched BSA control.

Precautions

1. Warm to 37¡ãC and mix gently before use; do not vortex vigorously.

2. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles; aliquot into single-use volumes.

3. Use the included BSA control at the equivalent dilution to distinguish fatty acid-specific effects from carrier effects.

4. Optimal treatment concentration and duration should be determined empirically for each cell type.

5. For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

FAQ (Simplified)

Q1: Why is a BSA control included?

A1: Palmitic acid is complexed with BSA for solubility. The BSA control allows discrimination of palmitic acid-specific effects from effects caused by the carrier protein alone.

Q2: What concentration is commonly used for lipotoxicity models?

A2: Palmitic acid is commonly used at 100-500 µM final concentration for 12-48 hours, depending on cell type and endpoint. Optimize conditions in pilot experiments.

Q3: How should I prepare the working solution?

A3: Warm the 10 mM stock to 37¡ãC, mix gently, and dilute into pre-warmed complete culture medium to the desired final concentration.

Q4: How should I store this product?

A4: Store at -20¡ãC protected from light. Aliquot into single-use volumes and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Disclaimer

1. For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

2. Due to the variable nature of biological research, optimization of treatment concentration and duration is recommended for specific cell types.

3. This warranty is limited to the replacement of the product. The manufacturer assumes no liability for incidental or consequential damages.

4. Wear appropriate protective clothing and gloves when handling this product.
