Lipid-Depleted Fetal Bovine Serum (LDFBS)£¬IC-1910

Product Description

1.Source: Fetal bovine serum (FBS) processed to remove lipids (cholesterol, phospholipids, lipoproteins) while retaining growth factors and proteins.

2.Appearance: Clear, light yellow liquid, free of precipitates .

3.Sterility: 0.1um filtered, tested negative for mycoplasma and viruses.

Key Features

1. Lipid Content:  Cholesterol ¡Ü 5ug/mL (vs. 100¨C200ug/mL in standard FBS). >90% total lipid removal.

2. Retained Components: Growth factors (e.g., IGF, EGF), hormones, amino acids, vitamins.

3.Cell Compatibility: Ideal for lipid-sensitive studies (e.g., lipid metabolism, atherosclerosis models, certain cancer cell lines).

Applications

1.Lipid Metabolism Research: Study cellular responses to lipid-deficient conditions.

2.Signaling Pathways: Minimize lipid interference in receptor studies (e.g., GPCR, insulin signaling).

3.Specialized Cell Culture: For cells requiring precise lipid control or low-lipid environments.

Usage

1. Thawing: Slow thaw at 2¨C8¡ãC (recommended) or rapid thaw in 37¡ãC water bath. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

2. Medium Preparation:  Recommended concentration: 5¨C20% (adjust per cell requirements).  Sterile-filter (0.22um) after mixing with basal medium.

3. Storage: Long-term: ¨C20¡ãC to ¨C80¡ãC; thawed aliquots stable at 2¨C8¡ãC for ¡Ü1 month.

Precautions

1.Cell Adaptation: Some cells may exhibit reduced growth; pre-testing is advised.

2.Lipid Supplementation: Add exogenous lipids (e.g., cholesterol) if needed.

3.Contamination Risk: Use aseptic techniques; aliquot to minimize contamination.

Quality Control

- Testing:

  - Endotoxin ¡Ü 10 EU/mL.

  - Hemoglobin ¡Ü 25 mg/dL.

  - Microbiological testing (bacteria, fungi, mycoplasma): Negative.

FAQs

Q1: Can LDFBS fully replace standard FBS?

A: No. Use only for specific low-lipid studies; standard FBS is recommended for routine culture.

Q2: How to handle serum precipitates?

A: Centrifuge (2000 rpm, 5 min) for minor precipitates; contact the supplier if excessive.
